Premium Mono is different to both Sinking Mono and Float mono and not just a clear version of either. It is formulated specifically to achieve maximum strength per diameter.
It is a standard stretch line which is often needed to help with absorbing the lunges of fish especially when under the rod top and at netting range and performs in even its lower diameters. This stretch means that it doesn’t want to unexpectedly ‘bottom out’ but, with balanced tackle, can give the angler a critical degree of ‘feel’ so the playing technique can be adjusted accordingly.
A very soft and very supple line, not as hard as Sinking or even Float mono, but one which is still durable and long lasting for its type. Its formulation makes it suitable both as a mainline and a superb hooklength line providing even more finesse. As a reel line it casts like a dream and peels off of the reel’s spool superbly. B/S for B/S it is thinner than either Sinking or Float Mono.
It ties up extremely well and can be used with a wide variety of common knots from Grinner, Palomar, Half Blood, Water as well as Whipping, Snell and even the No-Knot. It has reliable strength for knots which are well tied but obviously, as is normal, different knot types provide differing degrees of strength.
It’s parallel wound to keep the line as smooth as possible and vastly reduce the possibility of overlaps and the rippling commonly associated with standard ‘cross’ line winding processes. This then helps to keep it smooth and supple and makes for a ‘straighter’ line. This process is very slow and obviously costs more but makes for a much nicer line.
Common winding on the left in comparison to Parallel or Level winding on the right
Being available in a choice of 50m, 100m or 300m means you can use Premium Mono for many applications. The smallest 50m spools are very useful as they can be kept in your seatbox or tackle box to use on the bank for tying hooklengths etc. The 100m are great for tying up multiple hooklengths and pole rigs at home as well as loading reels. For example, you can load a ‘Match’ type spool with just the required 100m or with the bigger 300m you can fill 3 x 100m or just fill many deeper reel’s spools without backing.
Diameters and breaking stains cover the most commonly required sizes for Hooklengths, pole rigs as well as Float and even Feeder/bomb work although for demanding Feeder work, and especially Method Feeder use, the Sinking Mono is a better option for obvious reasons. The higher B/S sizes are far from thick and remain soft and supple enabling good casting and control. Diameters are as accurate as possible bearing in mind that nylon is Hygroscopic (it absorbs moisture).
There is no colour – it is clear with no pigments added. This helps to maximise B/S to diameter and keep it very supple. It is not a Fluorocarbon.
