These are probably the most general purpose or even ‘Utility’ type float being neither body up nor body down but a symetrical ‘Diamond’ shape. The sizes 0.2g up to 0.6g will cover a reasonable varity of depths and if you think of just 0.1g per foot (30cm) then 6ft (or 1.8m) will be covered – depending on wind of course.
C5 have the slightly thinner 1.5mm hollow tips whereas C6 have the bigger 2.0mm hollow tips – which at the time of writing is the thickest tip in the C series range. So the C5 is probably the more ‘universal’ of the two and the C6 with it’s thicker hollow tips more positive being able to fish with bigger baits and able to combat drift a little better when line is laid on the bottom. Neither is too delicate or too thick so that helps to make these suitable for a wide variety of types and sizes of bait.
Stems are 1.0mm clear fibreglass as this material has an excellent combination of strength and stability. These have a decent length of stem – but shorter than C3 & C4 – being not too short nor too long. As with any pole float stems though they can still be trimmed to suit personal preference (even winder sizes).
The ring eyes, which are placed over the hollow tips for added strength, sit at the very top of the balsa body and are blackened stainless steel. These have a proper, fully formed, ring to hold and protect the line. Some ring eyes are either made of too many coils making them a bit too bulky and also without a single fully formed ring. This can allow the line to become snagged in a corner of the formed wire ‘loop’ and even snagged & broken.
